First, the wooden building served as military casemates that were built at the beginning of the 17th century. In 1687, during the reign of Jan Sobieski (1629-1696), it got a defense system. Near this building the pillar of shame and numerous shops were located on Vicheva Square. In 1632 the building burned down and in 1932 (300 years after the previous town hall was damaged) the modern town hall was built.
In 2016, with the support of the European Union, the town hall tower and clock were repaired and modernized. Nowadays, every hour the clock plays the ancient anthem, and at noon the Ukrainian anthem „Ukraine is still alive” is played.
Tourists can visit the new town hall and enjoy the panoramic view of the city.
